Hello I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and talk a little bit about the direction of the Fire Department. My name is Kenneth Chew. I am the Chief of the Gibbstown Fire Department. I have almost 30 years of experience in the fire service. Ive been with the Gibbstown Fire Department since 1988 and have served as an officer for the past 10 years and this is my fourth year as Chief. The Fire Department is comprised of 35-40 dedicated people who in 2010 alone volunteered over 4400 hours in training and responding to emergency incidents. The firefighters range in age from 17 to over 60 and come with many different experiences and backgrounds. I would like to thank them for their continued support and dedication to the residents of Greenwich Township. In this climate of economic uncertainty, the Fire Department, like all departments within the township has had to tighten its belts financially, we have met this challenge by trim our budget without sacrificing safety of our firefighters or residents. I have worked with Mayor and Council to ensure that services are not affected, and will continue to do so. We have just received a new 4x4 Chevy Tahoe command vehicle, which will replace the 1991 Suburban. The Suburban has had many uses in the past 20 years including, utility vehicle, Chiefs vehicle and Deputy Chiefs vehicle. With the help of donations from the public as well as local industry we have implemented the En-Route System. This is a state- of- the- art system which will work with Google maps to display the location of the incident, to include locations of hydrants, and print directions to calls outside of the township. The system also displays the names and qualifications of responding firefighters. This will allow officers to make informed decisions regarding response and the need for more resources .This information is also available to officers via smart phones. I would like to thank everyone who has donated money for this innovative system, including a special thanks to New Generation Electric Company, for installing the wiring associated with the En-Route system. The Fire Department meets every Tuesday night at 6:30pm for drills and meetings. Please stop by to visit or if you are interested in becoming a member.
